Retreat Title: The Great Dissolution - the Dharma of Death and Dying

Led by Kamalashila

According to ancient Buddhist traditions, at the end of life the elements of body and mind dissolve one by one. Our experience of earth begins dissolving into water, then that into heat, then into air, into space - until finally only awareness remains. Then all memory and ideas connected to this life dissolve.

This seems extremely scary and very unwanted, yet it will happen to each of us. But wait - given some time to reflect and meditate, plus some guidance, we can learn how we can actually prepare for the end of life. It is only the forces of samsara within us - our fear, impatience, clinging and ignorance - that make death seem so impossible to relate to.

Facing simply and directly into it is a natural path to wisdom - and compassion too. And that place in ourselves ‘where our impermanence is a path’ can come about through considering what the tradition has had to say about death, and exploring the traditional meditations on death.

In recent years, Kamalashila has been leading retreats, mainly for Order members, on the Tibetan Book of the Dead and Death and Dying. This retreat offers the opportunity for both Order Members and non Order Members to benefit from Kamalashila's teachings.

This retreat is suitable for people who have been meditating for at least 3 years
